Project Snapshop
Project: Concrete Column Clamp Test
Location: Redding, California
Application: Load testing a concrete column clamp system
Challenge: Provide test data showing the clamp could hold the required load
Solution: Two calibrated 100-ton locking collar jacks with pump, manifold, gauge, and hoses
Result: Clamp passed the 24-hour load test

JF Shea needed load test data for a clamp system planned for an upcoming Caltrans project. The contractor cast concrete test columns at its Redding facility and asked CH Bull to provide the hydraulic equipment needed to verify the clamp’s load capacity.
The Challenge
Caltrans required proof that the clamp system could hold the required load for a sustained period. The test needed to apply the specified force and maintain that load for 24 hours.
The CH Bull Solution
CH Bull supplied a calibrated jacking system consisting of two 100-ton locking collar jacks, a pump, manifold, calibrated gauge, and hoses.
Stan Sheppard, CH Bull’s high-tonnage jacking specialist, went to the test site and supervised the setup. The required load was applied to the clamp system and held for the full 24-hour test period.

Project Outcome
The clamp successfully passed the load test and was later used by JF Shea on the Caltrans project.
Need Support for Load Testing?
CH Bull supplies calibrated hydraulic jacks, pumps, manifolds, gauges, hoses, and technical support for load testing, pile testing, bridge work, and other high-tonnage applications.
